Carson wants to "put down roots" at West Brom

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson aims to use his move to West Brom as a springboard back into England contention.

Carson said: "I just want to get settled now. I've been like a nomad for the last three or four years, going out on loan to three different clubs from Liverpool.

"It will be good to get some roots down and hopefully settle. I can see myself being here for four or five years, even longer than that.

"That's what I want. I did not want to go somewhere and then, after one or two years, not be happy.

"I think I am good enough to get back in the England squad. Hopefully I can settle down and get a bit of consistency and then I will be looking to get back in.

"No-one really said anything and I was left out of the squad at the end of the season but in fairness I didn't have the best couple of games for Villa before the squad was announced.

"That was fair enough. I took it on the chin. It just made me want to get back in the squad."

Carson insisted he was able to deal with the error against the Croatians which played a big part in the 3-2 defeat which ended England's hopes of reaching the Euro 2008 finals this summer.

He said: "I wouldn't say what happened made me stronger. I've always learned to take the good with the bad.

"I was always told by people when I was growing up that you have to take the rough with the smooth.

"It was one of those things. That is in the past. I've got to look to the future.

"After the Croatia game of course I was disappointed but I quickly had to get my mind back on games coming up with Aston Villa. Once I got back into those games it was in the past."
