Carsley understands slow market start for Everton

Former Everton midfielder Lee Carsley says fans shouldn't panic over a lack of deals so far this season.

Carsley wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "We're yet to make a signing and although that's surprised me there is no need to worry.

"A soon as the World Cup starts you would expect there to be a few rumblings.

"I'm sure that players have been spoken to and targets have been identified already.

"But put it this way. If I was Chelsea I wouldn't be looking to sell Romelu Lukaku now anyway.

"From a business perspective it's better to wait until he's banged in four or five goals in the World Cup and that will drive his price up.

"That'll probably add £10million to his price tag so in that respect you're always going to struggle to prise players away before the World Cup.

"It would have been nice to have seen us box off the likes of Gareth Barry.

"But Roberto won't be signing players solely on the back of the World Cup."
