Carroll chasing fresh Newcastle chance

Andy Carroll hopes he gave watching manager Kevin Keegan food for thought after scoring for Newcastle reserves in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Monday night.

Big Andy told the Evening Chronicle: "For the goal it was a great long ball down the field by Fraser Forster and, luckily, I read what their centre-half was going to do in terms of heading it back and won the ball before taking it round the goalkeeper.

"It was nice to score knowing Kevin Keegan was watching.

"It was a great occasion for the lads playing at St James's Park and everybody really enjoyed it.

"In the end I think we were unlucky not to get the win.

"All I have to do is keep my head down and keep on working hard.

"The aim is to keep on scoring goals at this level and hopefully between now and the end of the season I will get a chance in the first team."
