The Belgian midfielder joined the Red Devils for £27.5million from Everton on deadline day but his arrival has not dampened Carrick's spirits even though he is set to compete for a starting berth with the new addition.
"It's something I welcome," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"The more top quality players you have in your squad, whether it's in my position or not, the better it is for the team.
"It's not a case of me thinking 'I might not be in the team'. I will have to play well to be in it, regardless."
