Michael Carrick insists Manchester United are capable of recapturing past Champions League glory.
Carrick still represents 'old United' where the ambition is to win and second should not be celebrated.
"That feeling I had in Moscow, that's where we want to be as a club again," he says. "We want to be in finals, challenging. We want to be champions again. There are some fantastic teams around but we need to catch them up. And it's definitely something we can achieve.
"That 2008 team was devastating. The timing was right, everyone was at their peak at a similar time and when you're winning trophies regularly, it actually becomes easier.
"We have to replicate it. Get that mentality. Sometimes it isn't a lot you need, it's finding that extra edge. We have a stronger and more experienced squad than last season. The balance in ages is gearing up the same as the team that won three league titles in a row."
