Carrick confident Man Utd won't let Man City do Liverpool repeat

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is confident there'll be no Liverpool repeat for their clash with Manchester City.

United went some way to atoning for the Liverpool disappointment three days later by beating Olympiacos to reach the Champions League quarter-finals before following up with a convincing 2-0 victory away to West Ham at the weekend.

"The Liverpool game was a bit of a one-off as far as recent form goes," Carrick said. "Generally, I think we've been pretty good and we've been showing signs of getting back to where we want to be.

"[At West Ham on Saturday] I thought we played ever so well at times. We played some great football and created some good chances. At half-time we were probably disappointed not to be more than 2-0 up.

"Beating City would help us in terms of giving us another win and it would keep our run going but it's not going to repair any of the damage that's been done in recent months by us losing games. Hopefully we can play near our best. We'll go into the City game looking forward to it. It's obviously a tough game but it's a tough game for both teams."
