Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has defended England coach Roy Hodgson's under-use of Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.

Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail: "Michael Carrick's omission in Kiev has been questioned but no other England manager has ever picked him consistently - and when Carrick played against Montenegro in the 1-1 draw he did not perform to the standards that were expected."
