Carragher: This season struggles no Liverpool one-off

Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher says their struggles this season are nothing new.

The defensive stalwart admits the Reds are obviously frustrated by their below-par opening to the 2010-11 season, but he is adamant it is too early in the campaign to be writing off the hopes of Roy Hodgson's side.

Asked about pressure on the players, Carragher told reporters: "It's the same as the last 15 years I've been here. It hasn't changed because it's always been the same. We're not getting the results we would like, but I've seen it plenty of times since I've been at the club. You are playing for a top club and with that comes pressure.

"You have to accept that is the way it is. There has been a lot of trouble off the pitch. Time will tell but hopefully it will now be more settled and things will now improve on the pitch. Getting new owners will help settle things down and impact on the players.

"Of course we don't like to be in that position, but it's very early days in the season and there is still a long way to go. I'm pretty sure we won't be in that position in the next few months, but that's for us to put right on the pitch. There is pressure, but that comes with playing for Liverpool.

"As I've said many times, it hasn't always been rosy playing for Liverpool. Last season wasn't great and I remember going 12 games without a win under Gerard Houllier, so it hasn't always been plain sailing."
