Carragher questions Everton: Does Davies form show Schneiderlin is a mistake?

Jamie Carragher has queried Everton's decision to spend £24million on Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Toffees bought the French midfielder from Manchester United last week but manager Ronald Koeman opted not to start him in Sunday's home clash with Manchester City.

Instead, 18-year-old Tom Davies ran the show alongside Gareth Barry and Ross Barkley in central midfield, producing a Man of the Match performance and scoring his first senior goal, as the Toffees won 4-0.

Davies' stunning display prompted Liverpool great Carragher to question the timing of Everton's expensive purchase.

"We spoke about him at Hull when he came on to replace Gareth Barry on that Friday night and he brought that extra energy into midfield," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"For 18, and it showed in his interview as well, you can see the maturity in his game and the way he plays."

Asked if it was a brave choice from Koeman to start Davies ahead of Schneiderlin, Carragher added: "It was.

"Morgan Schneiderlin has come in as well but he now might be thinking he's made a mistake seeing this performance."
