Carragher puts positive spin on Liverpool missing out on Europe

Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher admits there are benefits from not playing Europe next season.

The Reds finished sixth in the top flight and failed to win a trophy, meaning next term will be the first campaign without European football since 1999/00.

He told the club's official website: "We would rather have got in the Europa League but it's not happened and we have to look at the positives.

"The main thing for us next season is getting back into the Champions League.

"Not being in Europe will give us a better chance of doing that. We want to get back in the top four and do well in the cups.

"Playing Thursdays and Sundays isn't ideal so there's a flip side to not being involved."
