Carragher: Liverpool want to win FA Cup for Hillsborough

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admits the players are determined to reach the FA Cup final this year.

He said: "We always seem to get to the latter stages of the Champions League, but we want to be a bit more competitive in the FA Cup. It seems we either go all the way and win it or get knocked out early. We're not reaching the quarters or semis on a regular basis, which is what we should be doing.

"The other thing is, it's 20 years since Hillsborough and that anniversary makes this season's competition more important for us. It was a terrible time for the club and we are all aware of that.

"That team still went on to win the Cup the following month, beating Everton 3-2, so it is important we try to do as well as we can. There is extra significance attached to it for us this time and there's no doubt that winning it would be the perfect tribute to those who died.

"The League and Champions League obviously mean a lot as well, but we all want to give 100 per cent in the FA Cup."
