Carragher declares Liverpool colleague Gerrard as next England skipper

England are searching for a new captain after John Terry was stripped of the role last week. And Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher is in no doubt who should take on the role.

"Steven Gerrard is the stand-out captain, and that's not a biased verdict," Carragher told the club's official website.

"He's been the captain of Liverpool for probably a decade. He's captained in Champions League finals, Europe, big Premier League games.

"He's also captained England in the last World Cup and he's one of England's best players. For me, I don't think there's a debate.

"It should be Steven Gerrard without a shadow of a doubt."
