Sheffield United and Socceroos midfielder David Carney has hopes of being included in the Australian Olympic squad as one of three overage players after a strong performance in Friday's friendly against Ghana.
However, the Blades are wary of releasing him for the Olympics as it coincides with their preparation for the new season.
Club manager Kevin Blackwell wants to keep both parties happy, but may seek some sort of compensation from the national association.
On the other hand, Carney is keen to play for his country and made his intentions clear in the Sheffield Star, "I'm desperate to keep pitting my wits against some of the best players in the world. I love playing for Australia. We have a strong squad and a good coach."
