Carney makes first Blackpool start in narrow loss to Villa

David Carney made his first Premier League start for Blackpool in Wednesday night's 3-2 loss to Aston Villa.

The Australian international managed a full 90 minutes for the Seasiders who were cruelly denied a point on the road when Villa defender James Collins headed home a late winner.

Earlier in the match, Villa's Stewart Downing opened up the scoring in the 28th minute before ex-Villa striker Marlon Harewood leveled on the stroke of half-time.

Villa hit the lead again through youngster Nathan Delfouneso on the hour-mark before Blackpool substitute DJ Campbell grabbed a late equalizer before Collins nodded the winner in the 89th minute.

It was Carney's third appearance for his new club, following on from two subs showings in the wins over Newcastle United (September 11) and West Brom (November 1).
