Former Argentina coach Carlos Bilardo insists it was he who set Lionel Messi on his way to stardom.
While it is widely regarded that former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was responsible for bringing out the best in the Argentine, Bilardo claims otherwise.
He told TyC Sports it was on his suggestion that Messi was taken away from the wing position and played through the middle.
"I said, 'he must be taken from the wing and be put in-between the lines (midfield and strikers)," said Bilardo.
"I told them (Barca) to take him off the wing. It was me. Now he is worth millions."
