Carlisle United have signed Hull City midfielder John Welsh.

Welsh has been allowed to join Carlisle on a one-month loan after failing to break into the first team this season.

Manager John Ward told the club's official website: "John is a holding midfielder who can help to steady things up in the middle of the park.

"I feel we need a bit more cover in that area at the moment so I'm pleased that we have been able to get him to work with us.

"He will be available to play against Hartlepool and we are looking forward to working with him."
