Carlisle blasts Burnley fans over derby havoc

Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle has turned on his own fans after their derby defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Carlisle missed the game with injury but hit out at those who ripped up seats, spat and hurled abuse - with his own son Marley upset at the ugly scenes.

He said: "I don't understand when that common positivity leaves and a neanderthal monster rears its ugly head.

"The result was bitterly disappointing, but there's no excuse for barbaric behaviour in the stands, no matter who the opponents are.

"What on earth possesses a man to rip up seats in his own stadium and throw them at someone? I have never before seen fans spitting and hurling obscenities at their own team and in front of young children. What kind of an example is it for them?

"In a time when players are being castigated for any and every discrepancy, what price for a bit of decorum on the other side of the fence?

"I wholly understand that it is a small percentage of people who are creating trouble, but it is the name of Burnley FC that gets tarnished and football in general.

"The first local derby league fixture in years, what an occasion I was wanting my son to experience, yet he ends up in tears, frightened by the near riot in front of him. I love football, but sometimes even the things you love can let you down."
