Carlisle add second Man Utd loan signing

Manchester United youngster Oliver Norwood has joined Carlisle United on an emergency loan.

The 19-year-old midfielder is regarded highly at Old Trafford and is seen as a set-piece expert by the United coaching staff.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott approached Sir Alex Ferguson over the possibility of signing Norwood following captain Paul Thirlwell's knee injury, which will keep him out for a month.

Ferguson has agreed to let the Northern Ireland international leave for one month but is keen for him to return and continue his development with the United reserves.

The deal strengthens the relationship between the two clubs, with Norwood joining fellow Old Trafford loanee James Chester at Brunton Park.
