Caribbean Combine pays off for Suriname's Rijssel

Major League Soccer's first-ever Caribbean Combine has paid handsome dividends for Stefano Rijssel.

The 21-year old Suriname forward was selected by the Seattle Sounders with a third round pick, number 55 overall, in the second half of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

Rijssel becomes the first player from an outer region combine to make his way to a MLS club after starring at the Caribbean Combine which led to a subsequent invite to the MLS Combine in Florida.

Rounds one and two of the draft were conducted on Thursday with the third and fourth taking place via a conference call on Tuesday.

Connecticut Midfielder George Fochive was the first pick of the third round (39th overall), heading to Portland Timbers, while Michigan's Fabio Pereira was also taken by the Sounders with the final selection (77th overall).
