Cardiff tried to bring Arsenal's Ramsey back to the club on-loan

Cardiff boss Dave Jones made an enquiry to take Aaron Ramsey back to the club on loan. Ramsey made 22 first-team appearances for the Bluebirds before joining Arsenal in 2008 and he was wanted back in South Wales following his return to fitness after a broken leg.

However, the 19 year old midfielder opted for a temporary move to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

However, Jones was not too downcast at missing out on the opportunity to have Ramsey in his squad again as he was unsure of the merits of only having the teenager for a month.

"We did make the enquiry, but we didn't get the call back," said Jones in Wales on Sunday.

"Maybe the player decided he didn't want to come back to Cardiff and we'll find that out over the next few weeks when the press ask him."

He added: "The difference [between Cardiff and Forest] is that he'll go there for a month and get fit, then you lose him again when Arsenal want him back.

"We're a little bit more advanced as a squad and a club to just take a player for a month. If we took a player like that it would have to be for the rest of the season.

"You don't want to get yourself into a position where you lose a player that you've only taken for four or five weeks.

"But we wish him all the best because he's a super player.

"We knew we had a player at 15 years of age and he's come on leaps and bounds. He had a setback, but he's come back from it and he's a top quality player."
