Cardiff throw hat into the ring for home-boy Bellamy

Cardiff boss Dave Jones has admitted that the chances of him signing Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy are slim. The Wales international is out of favour at Eastlands and looking certain to move on before the end of the transfer window after falling out with Roberto Mancini.

The Welshman has made it clear he is not interested in moving abroad, but went on record in confessing he would like to move his hometown club.

Bellamy would have to take a huge pay cut to move to Cardiff from his current contract at big-spending City, something Jones stated was the biggest stumbling block and that it was highly unlikely.

"On a scale of one to 10 we would be one, or even on a minus," Jones told the South Wales Echo about the possibility of landing the 30-year-old.

"To have a player of Craig's ilk talking about Cardiff City is a positive. We must be doing something right.

"But we are a long, long way from getting anywhere near signing him. It's been said Celtic are in for him - and probably 20 other clubs.

"What draws Craig towards Cardiff? Our training ground is five minutes from his home and he's a Cardiff boy. If it was possible, I would look at every option - and ask the board to look at every option.

"Craig's wages will be unbelievable and if there was a possibility the club would have to look at other options - we work within a budget. The budget would have to be broken and maybe funded from elsewhere."
