Maynard was left in no doubt about what to expect when the Bluebirds meet Michael Laudrup's men on November 3 at Cardiff City Stadium.
"Lee told me there is nothing that can prepare you for that atmosphere," Maynard told the Western Mail. "Personally, I am excited by it. They will be special matches.
"You can either be worried by the abuse or thrive on it. I'll love it, I'm sure.
"The biggest derby I've played in was for Crewe against Port Vale. I think Cardiff v Swansea will be a bit different.
"Cardiff is a big club in a big city with a huge fan base. We want to do the city proud.
"We don't want Swansea throwing their weight around any more than they have done."
