Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd is being watched by England scouts.
The Daily Mail says England manager Fabio Capello is short of options for the friendly against France a week on Wednesday because of injuries to Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Bobby Zamora.
For last month's clash with Montenegro, Capello called in Kevin Davies as support for Rooney, Peter Crouch and Darren Bent. According to FA sources last night, the France game at Wembley might come too soon for Bothroyd with Newcastle's Andy Carroll a smarter bet for a first senior call-up.
However, Capello does intend to continue monitoring Bothroyd, 28, having remembered him from a spell the player had at Perugia earlier in his career.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones said last month that Bothroyd is 'good enough if he puts in the shift he did against Bristol City', but one of Capello's main reservations is the level he is playing at.
