Cardiff's Whittingham not fearful of taking on Liverpool

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham says he and his teammates are taking no fear into Sunday's Carling Cup final.

The Bluebirds meet Liverpool at Wembley in the league cup decider and despite being the underdogs against a superior opponent, Whittingham says everybody involved with the Welsh club is excited about the challenge ahead.

"The whole thing is really exciting. The lads are really looking forward to it and hopefully we can put in a good account of ourselves," he told Wales online.

"It's a one-off game. It's not like it's a semi-final where it's two legs where they probably have more of a chance of winning it. It's one leg, anything can happen on the day and we're a good team and looking forward to it."

And when asked if he would fear the likes of Steven Gerrard in midfield for Liverpool, Whittingham was looking to take the contest on with no trepidation.

"These are the games you want to be playing in. You want to be playing against the highest caliber of players and I'm no different," he added.

"You want to be playing against the best players in the country and I'm looking forward to it and I'm going to relish it."
