Cardiff's Miller rues Rangers exit

Kenny Miller has admitted he wishes he stayed with reigning Scottish champions Rangers. The Scotland international left Ibrox to join Turkish club Bursaspor in a big-money move in January but the moved did not pan out and he has since arrived at Championship club Cardiff City.

Ahead of tonight's international friendly against Denmark at Hampden Park, Miller said that perhaps it was a mistake to up and leave Rangers but revealed that the contract offered to him was not good enough to stay.

"In hindsight I look back and probably wish I had stayed at Rangers. It was a decision made purely on what was going to be happening the following year," he said.

"The contract offer I got at Rangers just wasn't good enough. It was unacceptable.

"I felt I either had to sit it out there until the end of the season or leave in January.

"By leaving I was getting a few months at a new club under my belt before my first full season, so I took that option.

"But it became very hard for me and coming back to Britain or somewhere closer to home was the only option."

And Miller added that after committing himself to new Cardiff boss Malky Mackay, it was far too difficult to turn his back on the Welsh club even though a return to Rangers was more preferable.

"There was a lot of speculation and it would have been great," he added.

"But in many ways it wasn't an option as there was no contact until late on. When contact was finally made with Rangers it was impossible for me to turn my back on Cardiff. I'd given my word to Malky and I wasn't going back on that.

"It would have been a slap in the face to him as we were too far down the line."
