Cardiff reveal approach from unnamed club for Bothroyd

Cardiff boss Dave Jones revealed an unnamed club, thought to be Sunderland, have made a move for Bluebirds striker Jay Bothroyd. Black Cats boss Steve Bruce could be looking at a replacement for Darren Bent who recently handed in a transfer request at the Stadium of Light.

Cardiff have offered a new deal to the 28-year-old, whose contract ends at the end of the season, but they face a balancing act hoping the player will take a new deal, or run the risk he leaves for free in the summer.

Jones is determined to keep his star man in Wales, telling the Daily Express.

"We've had one enquiry and Jay knows about it. I had a long chat with him on Sunday and I'm sure he won't mind me saying that he wants to stay at this club.

"We said no [to the approach] but, because his contract is up in June, people think they can come and take him for a measly amount of money.

"We want to keep Jay and get the best out of him. After that, whether he decides to stay is up to him."
