Don Cowie admits he feared for his future at Cardiff City earlier this season.
Cowie doubted he would even make the club's 25-man Premier League squad before establishing himself as a first-team regular at the Bluebirds this season.
"There was doubt in my head as to whether I would even make the 25-man squad because I knew the manager was going to recruit in the summer," said Cowie.
"Everybody is wary of their position and the key was to work as hard as possible to prepare for the season.
"When I go away in the summer I don't drink, make sure I'm in good shape and ready to fight for my place.
"I'm extremely lucky the manager sees me as an important part of the squad."
