Cardiff managerial situation lurches into farce territory

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan will decide in the coming hours whether to sack manager Malky Mackay before or after Saturday's Premier League match at Liverpool. Chairman Mehmet Dalman has a preferred candidate to succeed the 41-year-old Scot who is understood to be a household name currently in work at another British club.

Mackay did not take Friday morning's pre-match news conference ahead of the visit to Liverpool on Saturday. Assistant manager David Kerslake did the honours at a heated press conference.

Kerslake explained: "I am here to talk about the Liverpool game. I don't think it will affect the players. They are a wonderful side, with an array of talent. The players have equipped themselves exceptionally well all season.

"They are going to be really tested but we have done really well and we go there looking for a result. Every manager, every coach knows it is a precarious job, nothing changes.

"Malky is unavailable and I have been asked to do the press."
