Cardiff City are believed to be frontrunners for the signature of Newcastle United's Sammy Ameobi.

According to dailymail.co.uk, the England U21 international is expected to re-sign with Newcastle when his current contract expires this week, before being sent out on a season-long loan.

Championship outfit Cardiff have emerged as the favourites to land the 23-year-old, despite interest from West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, Everton and Spanish club Real Sociedad.

It is understood that the lure of regular playing time at Cardiff has Ameobi weighing up a move to Wales.
