Cardiff boss promotes case for Bothroyd as England possible

Cardiff boss Dave Jones has urged England coach Fabio Capello to run an eye over in-form Bluebirds frontman Jay Bothroyd. England boss Capello found himself short on attacking options for the Three Lions' last outing, a Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro, and drafted in Bolton's 33-year-old Kevin Davies to help plug the gaps.

Jones believes the national coach should be more willing to turn his attention to the Championship, rather than sticking rigidly with Premier League performers.

Jones insists the second tier is full of international quality and is adamant that Bothroyd falls into that category.

"If England are looking for a different sort of striker they should look at Jay," he said of his 28-year-old frontman.

"He wouldn't look out of place with England because he's a high quality player.

"There are top players in the Championship. We've got Craig Bellamy and Bristol City have David James who is a world-class goalkeeper.

"It shouldn't all be about the Premier League. Sometimes we get carried away with that division.

"Jay's got everything - he's big and strong, he's got pace, he can hold the ball up and he can see a pass.

"There aren't many better than him at what he does."
