Cardiff boss Mackay to make sure Carling Cup loss does not derail promotion push

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay will make sure his side does not experience a drop in form following yesterday's Carling Cup final loss to Liverpool.

The Welsh outfit were beaten 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 after extra-time at Wembley and Mackay is determined to see his side, which sits sixth in the Championship, remain in contention for promotion to the Premier League.

"I will give them [the players] a couple of days off to relax and get over it and then go back in Wednesday, talk about it, park it and then we will get on with the other 14 games we have got this season because it is important we don't lose sight of that," a proud Mackay told Sky Sports News.

"I think everyone just had their own thoughts of what could have been," added Mackay.

"It was very, very close and I had an immense sense of pride in the way the club handled itself at the final, both our fans and staff in terms of build-up and then the 90 minutes and the way everyone conducted themselves on the day is just indicative of the way the football club is now."
