Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has revealed he's approached Manchester United for midfielder Darron Gibson.

Jones wants Gibson, 22, on loan for the rest of the season.

But he fears the Irishman's recent exploits for United have wrecked any chance of him moving to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Jones said: "Why would Darron Gibson come here when he's playing for United?

"We've enquired about him in the past. I will go back to Sir Alex and ask him again about Darron. I will probably get the same answer as I did last time. He will chuckle down the phone and say 'Get lost!'

"Darron is in United's team at the moment and he has scored a few goals for them this season.

"I've got a good relationship with Sir Alex but I can't see him saying, 'OK Dave, I've got no players but I'll let you have him'.

"But I'll ask because Darron is on my list."
