Cardiff attacker Bellamy: Wales just can't compete

Cardiff City veteran Craig Bellamy insists Wales simply are not good enough to reach the World Cup.

Cardiff City veteran Craig Bellamy insists Wales simply are not good enough to reach the World Cup.

It is a far cry from the days when Mark Hughes' crop came within a whisker of reaching the 2004 European Championships in Portugal, losing a play-off to Russia.

Bellamy said: "We haven’t qualified for major tournaments because the teams have not been good enough and I have not been good enough. It’s a simple fact. We have to get out of that routine of being poor old Wales.

"Even today people are saying we are unlucky. F*** unlucky – excuse my language – I am fed up with it.

"Defeats demoralise you. I felt we could not compete in a lot of games and that was really difficult to live with. I can handle losing, but not being able to lay a hand on someone is hard to take."
