Cardiff City are close to completing a deal for Everton defender Darren Dennehy.

The Republic of Ireland international is rumoured to be at Ninian Park undergoing a medical after City held talks with the Premier League club earlier this week.

The 19-year-old has been at Everton since 2005 but despite being offered a new contract by the Merseyside outfit, has opted to help Cardiff in their bid for promotion to the top flight.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale told the South Wales Echo: "We have had talks with Everton and the player. He should be with us for the start of pre-season training next week."
