Caravella insists Gold Coast United ready for finals

Despite two disappointing losses on the trot and just one win in their past five matches, Gold Coast United are ready for finals action according to midfielder Zenon Caravella.

United limped into fourth position on the A-League table, culminating in a poor 4-0 loss to Brisbane Roar on the weekend, but Caravella is adamant that the bad patch is behind the team who meet Melbourne Victory in an elimination final on Sunday.

"Physiologically we knew the game against Brisbane didn't matter in terms of our final league position; it was almost a dead rubber and naturally that was in the back of our minds," Caravella said.

"Obviously, we wanted to play for pride and we're all disappointed that we lost the match the way we did. Having to play those four games in ten days, including the trip to Perth, really took it out of us and we're all glad to have had the last two days off.

"What made it even tougher was the fact that we had injuries and we had to play those four games with virtually the same players. It was a big ask and exhausting for all of us.

"I don't think anyone is overly concerned about the result because the big game is this weekend against Melbourne. The Brisbane game meant little in the scheme of things, but the Melbourne game means everything.

"Everyone is feeling refreshed both mentally and physically; we're ready for it and can't wait for kick-off."
