CAPITAL ONE CUP WRAP: Man Utd edge Liverpool, Arsenal on penalties, holders Swansea dumped

The third round of the 2013/14 Capital One Cup was completed on Wednesday night with the final five fixtures being played.

Manchester United had Javier Hernandez to thank for their only goal as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Old Trafford, allowing them to set up a fourth round date with Norwich City.

Arsenal, who will face Chelsea in the fourth round, had to fight hard for their 4-3 penalty shootout victory over West Bromwich Albion after it ended 1-1 at the end of extra-time whilst Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran guided Newcastle United to a 2-0 home win over Leeds United.

Stoke City got the job done with a 2-0 victory at Tranmere Rovers whilst title holders Swansea City crashed out to 2011 winners Birmingham City 3-1 at St Andrews.
