CAPITAL ONE CUP: Six-star Southampton terrorise MK Dons

Southampton are emphatically through to the Capital One Cup fourth round courtesy of a 6-0 hammering of MK Dons.

The Saints were irresistible at the Stadium:mk as they tore apart Karl Robinson's Championship outfit with three goals in each half.

The opener came in just the fifth minute when Jay Rodriguez pounced on the ball just inside his defensive half before advancing past three Dons defenders and finishing beyond David Martin from about 16 yards.

Southampton were quickly two to the good when Sadio Mane danced his way through before producing a deft right-foot dink in the 10th minute before the Senegalese winger received a lovely ball from Shane Long which he controlled before turning his marker and slotting past Martin with ease.

A fourth goal came early in the second half through Rodriguez who converted from the spot after Long had been manhandled in the area before the Republic of Ireland international got in on the scoring act himself when inadvertently knocking a low cross from Juanmi which had been poorly cleared by Kyle McFadzean in the 68th minute.

Long then wrapped it up with 15 minutes remaining, clinically firing home a precise Steven Davis through ball with a thunderous first-time finish to see off the Dons and send the Saints safely through.
