CAPITAL ONE CUP - Quarter-finals: Villa knock out Norwich as Bradford dump Arsenal

Aston Villa and Bradford City have progressed to the semi-finals of the 2012/13 Capital One Cup.

Paul Lambert's Villa eliminated his former club Norwich City with a 4-1 scoreline at Carrow Road but the shock of the night was League Two's Bradford knocking out a strong Arsenal line-up on penalties after it ended 1-1 after extra-time.

The Bantams moved into the final four of the league cup competition for the first time in their history at the expense of Arsene Wenger's Gunners who had Santi Cazorla, Marouane Chamakh and Thomas Vermaelen all miss penalties in the 3-2 shootout defeat.

Gary Thompson fired Bradford into the lead in the 16th minute with a fine volley after the Gunners couldn't clear a corner but skipper Vermaelen leveled for the North Londoners with an 87th minute header.

Phil Parkinson's men managed to hold out until the end of extra-time as the Gunners chased a winner but Bradford then made it nine penalty shootout wins in a row to move through to the final four with Nathan Doyle, Gary Jones and Alan Connell all on target.

In Norfolk, Steve Morison opened the scoring for the Canaries in the 19th minute but Brett Holman soon canceled that lead out by leveling two minutes later with a superb half-volley.

Villa young gun Andreas Weimann then managed to score twice in six minutes to give his side a two-goal buffer before Christian Benteke wrapped it up in injury-time to send the Birmingham outfit through.

Tomorrow night sees Swansea City host Middlesbrough whilst the Leeds United v Chelsea fixture at Elland road will take place on December 19 after the Blues complete their FIFA Club World Cup obligations.
