CAPITAL ONE CUP: Inefficiency costs Swansea as Hull take advantage

Hull City eliminated Swansea City at the third round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Steve Bruce's Championship Tigers took advantage of some profligacy from Garry Monk's Premier League Swans to secure a 1-0 win at the KC Stadium, seeing them through to the next phase of the league cup competition.

Swansea were victims of a host of wasted chances, with Eder, Wayne Routledge and Gylfi Sigurdsson the main culprits, before David Meyler popped up with the only goal of the contest in the 41st minute.

Ahmed Elmohamady's right-wing cross saw Shaun Maloney's front-post header smartly saved by Kristoffer Nordfeldt but the ball dropped dangerously for Meyler who volleyed home from only inches out.

Swansea had some more chances in the second half, namely Kyle Bartley's 77th-minute header, but were unable to cancel out Meyler's opener which proved to be the difference in the end.
