Crystal Palace are safely through to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup after a comfortable win over Charlton Athletic.
The Eagles peppered the goals in the first half with Fraizer Campbell and Dwight Gayle looking hungry before the former finally found the back of the net when twisting and turning in the area to rifle beyond Nick Pope in the 51st minute.
Gayle then got his reward eight minutes later when he powered home from the penalty spot after Campbell had been brought down by Alou Diarra as her raced onto a through ball from his strike partner.
The Addicks got one back in the 65th minute when Naby Sarr's header from Johann Berg Gudmundson's corner rocketed into the palms of Wayne Hennessey before spinning in calamitously over the head of the Welsh goalkeeper.
But you got the sense Alan Pardew's men were in complete control and they added to their tally when Gayle was scythed down by Diarra, which led to a red card for the French defender, and allowed the Eagles striker to dust himself off and convert from 12 yards for his second.
Gayle then competed his hat-trick when glancing home Lee Chung-yong's corner in the 85th minute to give Palace a clear pathway through to the next stage of the league cup competition.
