Capello's England rescues British economy

Italian coach Fabio Capello has just rescued the British economy.

England's World Cup qualification will give PM Gordon Brown's flagging financial figures a much-needed boost next year.

The Sun says the FA are also likely to pocket a huge World Cup cash bonus.

Countries shared a staggering £175m prize pool at Germany 2006 - which is sure to increase this time around.

Italy got around £13m for winning in 2006 while nations that went out in the group stage still picked up £3.7m each.

Failure to reach the Euro 2008 finals cost the FA a guaranteed £15m in appearance money.

But that was small-change compared to the estimated £1BILLION it cost the British economy in lost advertising, sponsorships, kit sales . . . and beer!
