Capello warns Man Utd defender Ferdinand England career could be over

England coach Fabio Capello has warned Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand he faces being pensioned off.

Capello has dropped a bombshell by telling 32-year-old Ferdinand that time is starting to run out on his 80-cap international career.

He said: "I am upset for Rio but I was happy with the performance of the players who came in against Denmark - and they are the future.

"I don't know (if Ferdinand is an automatic choice), but I am happy because I have possibilities now that in the past I didn't have.

"I hope Rio will be fit again because every time he plays he is fantastic.

"But the players who came in against Denmark are good for me.

"It was one of the more important friendly games that we have played because I could see the new players and understand their value."

Capello added: "I am worried for Rio. I spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson about him when he was back in the United team and he was playing well, but with the new injury we have to wait on him again."
