England boss Fabio Capello demanded Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard join his squad yesterday.

The Mail on Sunday says Gerrard was summoned to England's team hotel in Hertfordshire on Sunday night after Fabio Capello flexed his muscles amid suspicions that he is not receiving the full support of Liverpool.

Injuries have thrown Capello's plans for Wednesday's friendly in Germany into disarray, so much so that Frank Lampard is being tipped to captain the side if John Terry is ruled out by a foot injury.

But Capello forced Gerrard to report for international duty hours after Liverpool issued a statement insisting their captain was out of action for "seven to 10 days".

Gerrard played all 90 minutes of Liverpool's 2-0 win at Bolton on Saturday, in which he scored the second goal.
