England boss Fabio Capello isn't ready to write-off Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole's World Cup chances.

The midfielder started in front of Capello for Chelsea's defeat at home to Manchester City.

Capello made his position clear in a press conference he gave on Friday, saying: "Cole did not play against Inter and it's not a good moment for him. Chelsea prefer Daniel Sturridge at the moment.

"Cole has problems and he's not the player I remember."

But the message inside the Capello camp last night suggested that Cole, who has not yet found top form after a lengthy injury absence, could return in time for the World Cup if he finishes the season well, says the Daily Mail.
