England coach Fabio Capello believes Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere should have been named Player of the Year.

The Daily Mail says Capello has been so impressed with Wilshere that he was a lone voice supporting the Arsenal midfielder as player of the season at an awards lunch this week.

Capello was a member of the panel put together by title sponsors Barclays to decide their individual Premier League honours.

And while Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic won the collective vote, Capello spoke out for Wilshere despite his Arsenal team failing to win any silverware.

The England boss has been unstinting in his praise for the 19-year-old since his stand-out Champions League performance in the first leg against Barcelona.
