England coach Fabio Capello wants to hand a recall to Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes.

The People says the England coach was said to be 'stunned' when Scholes came out of retirement two weeks ago and is keen to see what impact the 37-year-old midfield star has on Manchester United's season.

Capello tried to tempt Scholes back to international football for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But because the call - made by England number two Franco Baldini - came the day before the squad was announced he said no.

Scholes later said that if Capello had called himself "it might have meant more" and he did have regrets about rejecting the chance.
