England coach Fabio Capello denies capping Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck to end interest from Ghana.

The on-loan Sunderland forward made his senior Three Lions debut last night.

"Absolutely not," said Capello, when asked whether he was trying to block Ghana from picking Welbeck in the future.

"I work for England. I always select the best players for England. Yesterday, Aaron Lennon was injured. That is why I picked Welbeck."
