Canadian teenager Abe Donzo is on the verge of a professional contract with English Premier League club Everton.
The 16-year old, who was born in the West African nation of Guinea and spent time in a United Nations refugee camp in Liberia, initially won a TV soccer contest run by an independent film company that had a deal with Everton to find Canada's top 14-to-18-year-old player.
The prize was the prospect of a two-year placement with the academy.
In 2007, Donzo went over to England for a short trial which produced an offer to return the following year and now he will go back again to be a part of Everton's youth academy which spawned Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
Donzo will land at Everton in January and undergo a three-month training stint.
