The Daily Mail says MLS side Toronto FC want to offer Hargreaves a chance to resurrect his career.
The former England midfielder is a free agent after being released by Manchester United following two years blighted by injury to his knees and tendinitis.
Vancouver Whitecaps have also shown interest in the 30-year-old. Toronto are coached by former Dutch midfielder Aron Winter - and ex-Ipswich striker Paul Mariner is director of football.
