Sunderland captain Lorik Cana is delighted to be wearing the armband this season.
He told Sunderland's website: "To be captain is a great, great honour. I have done this before in Marseille, but I did not expect to be a captain so soon after moving to England.
"Of course, I accept it. I am proud for my family and my people and I will try every time to give my best and to give back the confidence the club has shown in me. I try to do this every day on the pitch.
"The most important thing is to respect the people, the club, the fans and the players. I am proud to be captain and I will try to do as well as I can."
